ARM-IN GUILLOTINE

The arm-in guillotine is the variation of the guillotine choke in which one of the opponent's arms is trapped inside the guillotine wrap alongside the head. The trapped arm acts as additional structural element that the conventional guillotine doesn't provide — the arm pressed against the opponent's own neck adds to the carotid compression, producing a particularly effective finish from closed guard or front-headlock positions.
The mechanics begin with the opponent's head and one arm trapped inside the attacker's choking wrap. The attacker's choking arm passes over the opponent's neck and the opponent's same-side arm (trapping both), while the attacker's other hand grips behind the choking arm to consolidate the wrap. The attacker can use various grip variations: pull-up grip (gripping the wrist), gable grip (palms together), or grip on the attacker's own opposite shoulder. The finish comes from squeezing the elbows together while driving the hips forward (from closed guard) or sitting back (from front-headlock), with the trapped arm adding to the compression on the carotids.
The arm-in guillotine has been used extensively at every level. Notable practitioners include various MMA fighters and BJJ competitors who have integrated the technique into their broader submission vocabulary. The technique is particularly common in MMA where the opponent's arm position during striking exchanges naturally exposes the arm to the trap. Defensively the arm-in guillotine is escaped by recognizing the arm-trap configuration early and pulling the arm out before consolidation, by maintaining strong posture and head position, or by walking the body to the same side as the choking arm.
