MOUNTED ARMLOCK

The mounted armlock is the canonical armbar finish from the mounted position, using the spider-web geometry that S-mount or high-mount positioning produces. The technique is one of the most fundamental and highest-percentage mount submissions. The technique pairs alongside the cross-collar choke as the two canonical mount finishes that every BJJ practitioner learns early in their career.
The mechanics begin from mount with the attacker isolating one of the opponent's arms. The attacker transitions to S-mount or high-mount geometry, posting the far foot near the opponent's head and swinging the near leg over the opponent's face. The attacker lands in spider-web armbar position with the opponent's arm extended vertically between the attacker's legs. The finish comes from elevating the hips while pulling the opponent's wrist toward the attacker's chest, producing the elbow hyperextension that forces the submission.
The mounted armlock is foundational and is taught at every academy globally. Notable practitioners include Roger Gracie (multiple Mundial finals via mount-to-armbar), Marcus Buchecha, and virtually every elite top-game competitor. The technique pairs particularly well as a combination with cross-collar choke — if the opponent reaches up to defend the choke, the exposed arm becomes immediately available for the armbar setup. Defensively the mounted armlock is escaped by hiding the elbow tight to the body, by hand-fighting the wrist grip before the leg-over-head completes, or by hitchhiker escape once the spider-web is locked.

- 02Isolate one of the opponent's arms.
- 03Post far foot near opponent's head.
- 04Swing near leg over opponent's face into spider-web.
- 05Finish with standard juji-gatame mechanics.
DEFENSES
- →Hide the elbow tight to the body.
- →Hand-fight the wrist grip.
- →Hitchhiker escape from spider-web.
