Luanna Alzuguir is one of the most successful women's featherweight competitors of the late 2000s and early 2010s IBJJF era and one of the most prolific Alliance-trained women's competitors of any generation. Born in Brazil and trained under Romero Cavalcanti at Alliance, Alzuguir accumulated multiple IBJJF World Championships at black belt and multiple Pan-American and European Open titles across her competitive career.
Alzuguir's competitive style emphasized the Alliance pedagogical tradition — sophisticated De La Riva guard work, modern sport BJJ submission hunting, and the technical depth that Alliance's broader competitive program had refined through Cavalcanti's coaching. Her competitive matches against the women's featherweight roster of her era (including various international competitors who emerged during the 2010s growth period) established her as one of the dominant lighter-weight female competitors of her generation.
Alzuguir's competitive influence extends beyond her individual results to her role in the broader Alliance women's competitive program and her pedagogical work at Alliance academies. Her commercial visibility through Alliance's broader pedagogical influence and her work in women's BJJ instructional content has contributed substantially to women's BJJ growth. As of 2026 Alzuguir continues to be referenced as one of the foundational figures of women's modern competitive BJJ and remains active in coaching and the broader Alliance community.
