CALF SLICER

Compressão de Panturrilha

IBJJF legal at: blue (nogi); brown (gi)

The calf slicer is the compression lock that traps the opponent's calf muscle between the attacker's shinbone and the opponent's own thigh, applying compressive force until the opponent taps from muscle and nerve pain. Unlike joint locks the calf slicer attacks the muscle itself, producing intense pain rapidly without joint hyperextension. The technique is legal in IBJJF gi at brown belt and above and in no-gi from blue belt, making it one of the few "leg attacks" available at lower belts in some rulesets.

The most common setup comes from the truck position or from back control when the bottom player drops a leg. The attacker threads one shin behind the opponent's knee, bends the opponent's leg around the shin in a wedge angle, and pulls the foot toward themselves while pressing the shin upward. The calf is compressed against the shin until the opponent taps. Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet system popularized the truck-to-calf-slicer sequence, and Mikey Musumeci uses it as a primary IBJJF finish.

MECHANICS

  • 01Thread one shin behind the opponent's knee.
  • 02Bend the opponent's leg around the shin in a 90-degree wedge.
  • 03Pull the foot toward yourself with both hands.
  • 04Press the shin upward to drive the calf into the bone.
  • 05Maintain the wedge — straightening the leg releases compression.

DEFENSES

  • Straighten the trapped leg sharply to remove compression.
  • Hand-fight the attacker's grip on the foot.
  • Roll out before the wedge fully closes.
  • Tap to grip — the tissue damage accumulates fast.
  • Prevent the truck position from establishing in the first place.
