Ffion Davies is the most decorated Welsh competitor in the history of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and one of the leading non-Brazilian women's competitors of the modern era. Born in Wales in 1992 and trained initially in the UK under Daniel Strauss, Davies won the ADCC World Championship at women's lightweight in 2022 and has multiple IBJJF World Championship medals at black belt across her career.
Davies' competitive style is built on a modern lightweight no-gi system that emphasizes back-take chains, aggressive submission hunting, and the standing exchange techniques that have become central to modern no-gi competition. Her matches against the modern women's lightweight roster — including various Atos-affiliated competitors and the rising generation of European and American women's grapplers — have been characterized by technical sophistication and consistent podium presence.
Davies represents a structural shift in the geography of women's BJJ competition: where the historic women's competitive scene was dominated by Brazilian-based competitors, the modern era has produced elite-level women from across Europe, the United States, and Australia, with Davies as one of the most prominent figures of this geographic diversification. Her commercial visibility through Polaris and Who's Number One has also contributed to women's BJJ commercial growth. As of 2026 Davies continues to compete at the elite level and is widely considered one of the top three women's lightweight competitors in the world.
